Baseball Betting News – Red Sox Win 6th Straight Game to Extend Longest Win Streak of Season

The Boston Red Sox are suddenly on a hot streak, oddly coming right on the heels of their worst losing skid of the year. Between May 15th and May 25th, Boston lost 10 straight games in three straight series sweeps by the Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays, and Tampa Bay Rays, respectively.

Prior to that slide, the Sox had only managed one series sweep of their own. Even then, it was only a two-game series against Cincinatti on May 6th and 7th. The team’s 7-1 victory Saturday against Tampa Bay puts them in position to secure their second straight series sweep with a win Sunday against the Rays. The Sox completed a 4-game sweep against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday where they outscored their opponents 22-12.

The second straight win for the Sox against the Rays on Saturday came on the heels of their closest win of the streak. It was also one of the wildest games of the year for both teams with the benches clearing multiple times, three batters hit by pitches (all Red Sox batters), and four ejections. The win came in extra innings thanks to a collision in the outfield right next to the bullpen area at Fenway. Catcher A.J. Pierzynski turned the bloop hit into an RBI triple scoring Jonny Gomes to give the Sox a 3-2 win.

Saturday, the Red Sox relied on a rusty Rubby De La Rosa to pitch the team to a lopsided win. De La Rosa last started a game three years ago prior to Saturday. He struck out eight batters in seven innings, and the Rays couldn’t get a run across the plate with him in the game. They scored their lone run in the eighth inning on an inside-the-park home run. The 25-year-old newly-minted starter came to Boston in the August 2012 deal that sent Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford, and Adrian Gonzalez to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

If the Red Sox manage to extend the streak Sunday, they will go into a series with the Cleveland Indians and face their old head coach on a high note. Terry Francona’s team isn’t faring much better than the Red Sox so far this season, and both squads have similar records. Both the Rays and the Indians are at the bottom of their respective divisions. Despite losing four in a row to the Sox, Atlanta still holds down the top spot in the National League East.

The Red Sox are now six games behind the Toronto Blue Jays, good for fourth place in the division. Their arch-rivals the Yankees have second place locked down at the moment with the Orioles just two games behind them in the rankings.
